Love's Journey

Ciao! This week's theme is "Love's Journey". Our first song was originally recorded by the Everly Brother's and more recently by various artists, but the one by Nazareth from 1975 is my favorite version of the song Love Hurts . Next up we have Tonight's the Night by Rod Stewart from 1976. Now let's listen to Chris Rea with Josephine from 1985. Our next song is Last Dance by Donna Summer from 1979. And now here is Barry Manilow with Mandy from 1974. It is one of the most played songs from the 70s on radio and television. The song was written by Scott English who recorded it in 1971 with the original title Brandy . Manilow's single Mandy reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100. Surrender to Love

Ciao! This week's theme is "Surrender to Love", and our lineup is 100% Rock. These are not all power ballads, though. For example, this first song is Sabbra Cadabra by Black Sabbath from 1973. It's a cute love song with a hard rock beat. Who knew such sweet lyrics could come from a notorious bad boy like Ozzy Osbourne? Now let's listen to Everlong by the Foo Fighters from 1997. Our next song is Hold On by Santana from 1982. Enjoy the romantic lyrics and dance beat, interspersed with some nice guitar riffs in classic Carlos style. Eternal Devotion

Ciao! This week I've chosen the theme "Eternal Devotion". Let's start off with Lara's Theme from the 1965 film Doctor Zhivago . The song was composed by the famous soundrack composer Maurice Jarre. They lyrics were later written by Paul Webster at the request of Connie Francis. For this week's episode I've chosen the Italian version of the song which is called Dove Non So . Connie Francis' birth name was Concetta Rosa Maria Franconero. She's a former actress and top-charting international recording star whose hits span the late 1950s to early 70s. Her single, Dove Non So became her last number one success in Italy. Here is Dove Non So , which means "where, I don't know" (by Connie Francis). Now let's listen to Fields of Gold by Sting from 1993: a beautiful song about remembering the beauty of love. Voglio Te which means "I want you" was released by Luca Bergamini in 2019. Hearts Entwined

Ciao! This week I've chosen the theme "Hearts Entwined". Let's start things off with Dreams by the Cranberries from 1993. The Spinners released I'll Be Around from the group's 1972 self-titled album on Atlantic Records, the first album release for the label. It was initially released as the B-side of How Could I Let You Get Away . Radio DJs preferred I'll Be Around , and it became an unexpected hit, eventually spending five weeks at number one on the US R&B Chart and reaching number three on the US Pop Chart. It was also the Spinners' first record to reach sales of over one million copies. Here is I'll Be Around . Siamo Soli , which means "we are alone" by Vasco Rossi from 1981 is about feeling alone even when you're with another person. Tenderness & Solitude

Ciao! This week's theme is "Tenderness and Solitude". Our first song is Love Me Tender by Elvis Presley from 1956. It was published by Elvis Presley Music from the 20th Century Fox film of the same name. The RCA Victor recording by Elvis was number one on both the Billboard and Cash Box charts in 1956. It was adapted from the melody of Aura Lee , a sentimental Civil War ballad. Love Me Tender was also featured in many other films and television shows over the years. Our next song is Alone Again Naturally by Gilbert O'Sullivan from 1971. When I was young I used to think this song was a bit depressing, but listening to it again after a few decades I'm able to appreciate the beautiful melody and the arrangement of the background instruments, especially the guitar and the flute. Ciao! This week’s theme is “Suddenly Love”. First up is Parlami d’Amore by Giorgia from her 1999 album, Girasole, which means “sunflower”. The title means “speak to me of love”. Now here is Because I Love from Demis Roussos from 1979. This week we have a special request from one of our listeners. Paolo would like us to play Suddenly by Billy Ocean from 1984 and he is dedicating it to a very special person in his life, Rossana. Strada Facendo literally means “going along the road” and this song by Claudio Baglioni is about wanting love intensely, and believing that you will find it somewhere along the way.  Ciao! This week’s theme is “Eternal Flame”. Let’s start off with Charles Aznavour's charming classic “For Me Formidable” from 1963. It’s a timeless tune perfect for any romantic mood! Now let's listen to Italian superstar Laura Pausini with her 2006 ballad “In assenza di te” which was featured on her album Io canto. “In assenza di te”, means “in absence of you”. “Amici Mai” is by Antonello Venditti, from 1991. The title means “never friends”, because at the end of their relationship, he doesn’t want them to become “just friends” because that would reduce what they had together as common and ordinary. Ciao! This week I have chosen the theme “Always”. To start out, let’s listen to “Never My Love” by The Association from 1967. Next up is “Niente al Mondo” by Dolcenera from 2015. The title means “nothing in the world” and she says there is nothing in the world that she would trade for her love. Our next song is by Belgian tenor Helmut Lotti. The title is “All My Life” and it is a powerful song about a man who will love forever even though he doesn’t know when or if he will see his loved one again. The song was written by Helmut Lotti and Joaquin Rodrigo and was first released by Helmut Lotti in 1995. Now let’s listen to “Forever and Ever” by Demis Roussos from 1973. Ciao! This week I’ve chosen the theme “Dancing in Love”. First up is “Sway” by Dean Martin from 1954. Next up is “Lady in Red” by Chris DeBurgh from 1986. It was a huge worldwide hit, going to #1 in 25 different countries. Now let’s listen to “Unchained Melody” by the Righteous Brothers. The song is from 1955, with music by Alex North and lyrics by Hy Zaret. North wrote the music as a theme for the little-known prison film “Unchained”, which explains the song’s title. Todd Duncan sang the vocals for the film soundtrack, but it is the version by the Righteous Brothers from 1965 that became the jukebox standard. One of the favorite songs from my youth is “Muskrat Love” by Captain & Tenille. Recorded in 1976, it is about two muskrats, Sammy & Suzy, who are in love, and who like to dance together. “Heartache on the Dance Floor” by Joe Pardi is a 2016 country western song about a girl that captures a man’s heart as he watches her dancing. Ciao! This week I’ve chosen songs that all have the name of a woman in their title. So I’m calling this episode “My Love’s Name”. To start off let’s listen to “Aubrey” by Bread from 1972. Next up is “Magdalena” by Demis Roussos from 1989. It is a song about a man who is on his way back home, and back to the woman that he loves. Now let’s listen to the Allman Brothers with “Melissa” from 1972. Our next song is by Antonello Venditti, an Italian singer-songwriter and pianist who became famous in the 1970s for the social themes of his songs. Here is one of his most beautiful love songs from 1978, entitled “Sara”. Next we have The Police with “Roxanne” from 1978. Here is “Lorelei”, one of my favorite songs by one of my favorite groups, Styx. Released on their 1975 album Equinox, it was released as a single in 1976. Ciao! This week’s theme is “Only You”. To start off let’s listen to a song with that very same title, by the Platters from 1955, with lead vocals by Tony Williams. Our next song was originally recorded by Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons in 1967, but this is the Boys Town Gang version from 1982, with Cynthia Manley’s fabulous voice. Here is “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You”. Now let’s listen to the 1974 hit “Hooked on a Feeling” by Blue Swede, also known as the Ooga-Chaka song. In 1974 Claudio Baglioni released the song “E Tu”, from his album of the same name. The title means “and you”, and it says “there is nothing but you, only you, always you”. Blue Moon by Ella Fitzgerald from 1957, was originally written in 1934 by Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart, and over the years became a standard ballad that has been recorded by many artists. Ciao! This week I’ve chosen the theme “My Wish” and our lineup features songs that talk about wishing for love, or wanting something to change, or evolve in the relationship. Our first song is “End of the World” by Demis Roussos from 1993. “Con Te Partirò” (which means “with you I will depart”) by Andrea Bocelli from 1995 is similar to the previous song, as it is a wish to go on a romantic voyage with a loved one, to places that no longer exist. Our next song is “Fly Me to the Moon”. Frank Sinatra recorded it in 1964, but the voice of Doris Day is so sweet that I chose her version, from 1965. Who else loves Guardians of the Galaxy?
