Synth-Pop Love

Ciao! This week’s theme is “Synth-Pop Love”. Let’s start things off with a song that perfectly expresses the essence of the synth-pop genre. Released in 1980, "Fade to Grey" is by Visage, and it became an instant hit across Europe. Here’s "Vienna" by Ultravox. Did you know that this track was famously used in the film "Billy Elliot"? Let’s listen… Now here is "Shake the Disease" by Depeche Mode. Our next song is the synth-pop anthem "Love Action (I Believe in Love)" by The Human League. And now here's "Talking in Your Sleep" by The Romantics. It was a massive hit in the early '80s, reaching the top 5 on the Billboard Hot 100. Next up is "Secret" by Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, better known as OMD. Now let’s listen to "Lessons in Love" by Level 42. This song was a huge hit, reaching the top 10 in several countries. Up next, we have a synth-pop classic that's guaranteed to melt your heart. &

Waiting for Love

Ciao! This week I’ve chosen the theme “Waiting for Love”, and our first song is “Waiting for a Girl Like You” by Foreigner from 1981.

Next up is “Magari” by Italian singer-songwriter Renato Zero from 2003. The word “magari” is often difficult to translate into English. In the context of this song it means “I wish”, and he is saying that he wishes that a little happiness would come his way, and he hopes that he will be able to wait for it to arrive.

Now let’s listen to “Send Me An Angel” by the Scorpions from 1990.

Our next song is “I’d Love You to Want Me” by Lobo from 1972. It is the second single from his second album “Of a Simple Man”. The song was the singer's highest charting hit on the Billboard Hot 100, where it spent two weeks at No. 2. It was the second of his four songs that hit No. 1 on the Easy Listening chart, where it had a one-week stay. When it was originally released in the UK, it didn’t chart, but a re-release of the single in 1974 peaked at No. 5. It also topped the charts in at least seven nations, including Australia, Canada, and Germany.

Now here is another song from Foreigner, this time from 1984, “I Want To Know What Love Is”.

Next up is “Hello” by Lionel Richie.Taken as the third single from his second solo album, the song was released in 1984, and reached number one on three Billboard music charts: the pop chart, the R&B chart, and the adult contemporary chart. It also went to number one on the UK Singles Chart.

“Non Vivo Più Senza Te” by Biagio Antonacci from 2012 is an interesting song. The title means “I can’t live without you any more”, but the music doesn’t give the impression that he’s suffering. In fact the lyrics reveal that he is being pursued and seduced by another woman, but he says “I can’t live any longer without you...solitude is dark and dirty and it devours you...solitude is the sound that is heard, without YOU”.

Now let’s listen to “I Can Dream About You” by Dan Hartman from 1984.

“This Time” is a hit song by Canadian rock star Bryan Adams, appearing as the third track on his 1983 album “Cuts Like a Knife” and released as the third single from that album. The single went to number 24 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 21 on the Top Rock Tracks chart during the fall of 1983. It also peaked at number 32 on the Canadian Singles chart, and reached number 41 on the UK Singles Chart in 1986.

Our next song is “The Next Time I Fall in Love” by Peter Cetera & Amy Grant from 1986.

Now here is “Amami” by Emma from 2013. The title means “love me” and the chorus says “love me, like the Earth loves the summer rain, love me as if you were the gleam of a lighthouse at sea, love me without tomorrow, without hurting each other, but love me now. After us there is only the wind, and it carries love away.

Now let’s listen to “When It’s Love” by Van Halen from 1988.

Our next song is “Arriverà” by the Italian band Modà. The song also features Emma, and it was released in 2011. The title means “it will arrive”, referring to love, and it is one of the most beautiful songs that I’ve ever heard.
