Love's Journey

Ciao! This week's theme is "Love's Journey". Our first song was originally recorded by the Everly Brother's and more recently by various artists, but the one by Nazareth from 1975 is my favorite version of the song Love Hurts . Next up we have Tonight's the Night by Rod Stewart from 1976. Now let's listen to Chris Rea with Josephine from 1985. Our next song is Last Dance by Donna Summer from 1979. And now here is Barry Manilow with Mandy from 1974. It is one of the most played songs from the 70s on radio and television. The song was written by Scott English who recorded it in 1971 with the original title Brandy . Manilow's single Mandy reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100. Now here is Genesis with Your Own Special Way from 1976. Next up is All of Me by John Legend from his 2013 album Love in the Future . Ain't No Mountain High Enough by Marvin Gaye and Tamm Terrell from 1966 was a top twenty hit which peaked at number 19 on the Billb...

Together Again... or Maybe Not

Ciao! This week I’ve chosen the theme “Together Again...or Maybe Not”. These are songs about getting back together, or wanting to, or staying together after deciding maybe to break up, or songs explaining why none of these things are possible. First up is “Stuck on You” by Lionel Richie from 1984.

Our next song is by Italian singer-songwriter Eros Ramazzotti, from 2000 entitled “Nell'azzurrità”, which means “in the blueness”.

Now here is “Promise Me” by Beverly Craven from 1990. A beautiful piece of music, promising to be home soon.

Next up is “Strano il Mio Destino” by Giorgia from 1996. The title means “strange, my destiny” and she is singing about how strange her fate is, having brought her within a short distance from her loved one’s heart, without ever actually arriving.

Here is one of my favorite songs of all time, “Before the Winter” by Stratovarius from 1997. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again...some of the best love songs are by metal bands, and this one is no exception! It has great lyrics, beautiful melody, gorgeous vocal harmonies, flawless piano, exceptional keyboards, oboe, orchestra, and the throbbing drums and electric guitar typical of the best metal bands. Enjoy!!!

Now let’s listen to “I’d Really Love to See You Again” by England Dan & John Ford Coley from 1976.

Our next song is “Portami Via” by Dolcenera from 2005. The title means “take me away”.

And now here’s “After All” by Peter Cetera & Cher from 1989.

“Weekend in New England” by Barry Manilow from 1976 asks with great longing…”when will I hold you again?”

Here’s a very enjoyable song that I found on the web, but I can’t tell you much about it, except that the title is “Di Nuovo Insieme”, which means “together again”, and it is sung by two people named Marco & Alice.

“When Will I See You Again” by The Three Degrees is a song released in 1974 by American soul group The Three Degrees, from their third album The Three Degrees. Billboard placed the song at number 67 on the list of 100 Greatest Girl Group Songs of All Time. The song is unique in that every sentence is a question. It was one of the most successful recordings of the "Philly Soul" era. In the U.S., and it peaked at #2 on the pop singles chart. It reached #1 on the adult contemporary chart, and #4 on the R&B chart. It also spent two weeks at the top of the UK Singles Chart.

Here is “Bargain” by The Who from 1971. It is about being willing to do anything, to find the right person to love.

Our next song is “Per tornare a te” by Michele Zarrillo from 2003. The title means “to return to you”.

Next up is a song from 1972: “Everything I Own”, by Bread, which is still one of my favorite groups, after all these years.
