Synth-Pop Love

Ciao! This week’s theme is “Synth-Pop Love”. Let’s start things off with a song that perfectly expresses the essence of the synth-pop genre. Released in 1980, "Fade to Grey" is by Visage, and it became an instant hit across Europe. Here’s "Vienna" by Ultravox. Did you know that this track was famously used in the film "Billy Elliot"? Let’s listen… Now here is "Shake the Disease" by Depeche Mode. Our next song is the synth-pop anthem "Love Action (I Believe in Love)" by The Human League. And now here's "Talking in Your Sleep" by The Romantics. It was a massive hit in the early '80s, reaching the top 5 on the Billboard Hot 100. Next up is "Secret" by Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, better known as OMD. Now let’s listen to "Lessons in Love" by Level 42. This song was a huge hit, reaching the top 10 in several countries. Power Ballads

Ciao! Our first song is “Miles Away” by Winger from 1990.

Here is another power ballad from 1990: “More Than Words Can Say” by the Canadian band Alias. The song is the second single from their debut album, and it became a No. 2 hit in the United States and topped the charts in Canada for four weeks.

Next up is “Love is Only a Feeling” by the English rock band The Darkness, from 2003.

Now let’s listen to “Harden My Heart” by Quarterflash from 1981.

Our next song is “Don’t Know What You Got (Til It’s Gone)” by the glam metal band Cinderella. The song is from their second album “Long Cold Winter”. Released in August 1988, it was their most successful single, peaking at number 12 on the US Billboard Hot 100.

“Love Walked In” by the English rock band Thunder was released in 1991 as the last single from their 1990 album Backstreet Symphony. It is the band's second highest charting UK single, reaching number 21.

“Fly To The Angels” by Slaughter from 1990 was a world-wide hit, charting #1 on four separate charts including Mainstream Rock. It is also the only Slaughter single to go platinum, and therefore their greatest commercial success.

Our next song is “I Found Someone” by Cher from 1987. Cher has always been a great performer with a powerful voice, and this song is the perfect vehicle for demonstrating exactly that.

It’s a little amusing to hear heavy metal bands singing sweet, sentimental songs like this one. Well yes, it’s a power ballad, but the lyrics are simple and romantic.Here is “Home Sweet Home” by Motley Crue from 1985.

Here’s another song with sweet, romantic lyrics: “When I See You Smile” by hard rock band Bad English from 1989.

“Is This Love” by the British-American rock band Whitesnake was released in 1987 as the second single from their self-titled album. The single was a hit for Whitesnake, reaching number nine on the UK Singles Chart, and number two on the US Billboard Hot 100.
