The theme of this week’s episode is “You Are My Everything” and our first song is Anima Mia by Claudio Baglioni from 1997. Anima mia means my soul, and he is referring to his loved one as his soul, meaning that she is the most precious thing in the world to him.
In 1969 The Beatles released their album “Abbey Road”, which included the song “Something”, written by George Harrison. The single topped the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States as well as charts in Australia, Canada, New Zealand and West Germany, and peaked at number 4 in the UK.
Now let’s listen to “Un Amore Così Grande” which means “a love so great”, sung by Pavarotti.
Debby Boone released “You Light Up My Life” in 1977 on her album of the same name. The song instantly became a huge success, spending 10 weeks at the top of the charts and going on to win a Grammy, a Golden Globe, and an Oscar for Best Original Song.
Our next song is “Grande Grande Grande” by Mina from 1988. She describes that man that she loves, pointing out all of his negative traits, but in the end she repeats again and again how great he is.
Next up is “You’re the Inspiration” by Chicago from 1984.
“Ci Sei Sempre Stata” by Ligabue was released in 2010. The song’s title means “you have always been there” and the lyrics are pure poetry, and difficult to explain, but the song is really beautiful, so let’s just enjoy listening to it.
Let’s continue the rock & roll love with “The Air That I Breathe” by The Hollies from 1974.
Adriano Celentano is one of the better known singer songwriters, and his 1991 song “L’Emozione Non Ha Voce” says “I don’t know how to talk about love, feelings don’t have words, and I get breathless. When you are here the light is too strong, and my soul expands like music in the summertime.”
Now let’s listen to “Too Much Heaven” by the BeeGees from 1967.
“Finalmente Tu” was performed by Fiorello at the 1995 Festival of Sanremo and placed number five, which was quite good, considering that it was his first time as a contestant. The title of the song means “finally you”. (not included in my Spotify playlist - song not available on Spotify at the time of this posting)
Next up is “Burnin’ for You” by the Blue Oyster Cult from 1981.
“Prisoner of Your Eyes” by Judas Priest was recorded in 1985 during work on their “Turbo” album, but not included in the final cut. Too bad, because it is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. Fortunately it was released as extra content in the 2001 reissue of “Screaming for Vengeance”. It’s too beautiful a song to be kept locked up forever in a record company’s vault.
